PhD Electrical and Computer Engineering student

Research: Mahsa’s research is focused on developing the next generation of wireless networks. “We are using 4G right now and next generation will be 5G. My research will provide faster connectivity between mobile users and internet.”

Peaceful living in Hamilton: “I am from Tehran, Iran. Tehran is a really busy, crowded city so I really appreciate the nature here in Hamilton. It’s peaceful here, there’s a lot less traffic and no one is in a rush.”

Ontario provides opportunities: “There is a wide range of career opportunities, especially for engineers in Ontario. Many of my friends are coming to Ontario to find careers here.”

A dedicated mentor: “Tim Davidson is a Professor and Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering at McMaster. He has been my mentor for a long time. I was one of his Master’s students when I first came here from Iran and now I continue my PhD with him. He’s a very knowledgeable professor, but what I really appreciate about him is the way he mentors international students. Because English is not our native language, writing, reading, and even listening can be difficult. He is so patient with our challenges and that’s what makes him a great supervisor.”

Considering her career options: “I am thinking about becoming a professor but I may also go into industry. I’m not sure what I want to do yet but what I am certain about is I want to be happy and motivated in the career I choose.”
